Our Violet Richardson Award was given to Laura Khuu, a student at Hercules High School. She is in her school's Interact Club. Our Violet Richardson Award was given to Laura Khuu, a student at Hercules High School. She is in her school's Interact Club. She is also involved in Project Glimmer, that provides mentoring to girls, Groundwork Richmond's Green Team and Air Rangers program. Like Violet Richardson, who was President of the very first Soroptimist club, Laura, too, feels that it is very important to give back by community service.

She has overcome some difficulties and in now on track to graduate from Chico State University with a bachelor's degree in Sociology in the Spring of 2025. Her future goal is to become a community advocate with an emphasis on children with special needs.

In June 2022, we awarded one $5,000 scholarship to a very deserving young woman. The impressive Richmond Soroptimist Scholarship winner for the Soroptimist year 2021-2022 is Citlaly Solano, a multi-faceted student with a great academic record. She is a first generation college bound student. Citlaly graduated from Richmond High School and will attend UC Berkeley. She plans to study psychology.
Again this year, due to to Covid-19 guidelines, the process was handled totally online. There were multiple highly-qualified applicants. All of the girls had great academic records, fantastic letters of recommendation, many community volunteer activities, and inspiring goals for their futures.
Deadline to apply has been extended until January 15, 2024.
